Places of Interest

We have listed a selection of places of interest with in the local area.

Le Pouldu and Beaches

Le Pouldu has 3 excellent beaches - everybody ends up with their favourite - and there are often events here in high season. There is also a lovely beach at Pouldu Port. All of the beaches also have great rock pools, which are exposed at low tide. How many crabs can you catch?

The port has an excellent restaurant and a very relaxing bar overlooking the estuary. There is a lovely walk to Pouldu Port from Posmoric Port along the banks of the River Laita. All of this is within 2kms of the campsite itself.

Clohars-Carnoët (Klo-ar-Car-no-et)

Clohars is the nearest town with shops, banks and the post office. Clohars has the nearest supermarket - Shoppi - where you can stock up on most groceries. The market here is on Saturday mornings in the very posh new town square.

Doelan (Dwe-lan)

Doelan is a delightfully unspoilt fishing harbour where you can enjoy a meal or a drink overlooking the lovely harbour area.

Guidel (Geedel)

Guidel is bigger than Clohars and Doelan and is a good place to visit on Sunday mornings. The market here has loads of goodies to tempt you. There is a great wine shop in the market square and a number of gift shops. Guidel also has a recently extended SuperU supermarket.

Just beyond Guidel itself is Guidel Plage and Larmor Plage. Lamour is a wonderful place to sip steaming hot coffee and watch the locals take their dog for a carry.

Moelan-Sur-Mer (Mwe-lan)

Head for Moelan to visit the beaches of Kerfany, Les-Pins, Trenez where you can cross the causeway to explore the German gun batteries. There are lots of coastal walks from these beaches.

Quimperle (Kem-per-lay)

Quimperle is a fair size town with all kinds of shops and facilities. Thereis a good market on Friday mornings and the walk along the riverside by the stunning floral displays towards the daily fish market is a great way to see the town's mediaeval quarter.

Pont Aven

Pont Aven is about 20kms north of the campsite and is famous for the residency of Paul Gaugin and his pals. It is very picturesque with the river running through the middle of the town. There are something like 35 art galleries and exhibitions around town so keep your wallet locked away. You can also hire small motorboats there for a river trip.

Concarneau

About 15kms north of Pont Aven is Concarneau with its fabulous walled fortress in the middle of the harbour. It is the third largest fishing port in France and a good all year round resort. The Museum of Fishing and chocolate shops are worth a visit inside the walled fort.
